About Back River Boat Yard

It all started when...

Sam and Ruth Francis, my father and mother, bought a then rather distant peninsula on the coast of Maine in 1972. By 1975 Back River Boat Yard was up and running, a couple of dreamers and a hell of a work ethic. Over the years they've run a sail making business, made nautical cedar buckets, rebuilt 50' wooden schooners, and masterfully crafted just about everything possible out of teak and mahogany. Stop by and my father will talk your ear off with old boat speak, and you'll love him for it.

In the last fifteen years, as the sons have become more involved, we've expanded our winter storage capacity to 100 boats, focusing on smaller repairs and customer satisfaction in our laid back atmosphere.

Come by and say hi to the family! You're welcome.
